Diploma

CourseDiploma in Dance (Performance)

Description

This rigorous and dynamic 2-year course provides an immersive experience that blends the study of dance practices, performance, pedagogy, dance science, contextual and professional studies, preparing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the dance and creative industries.

Located in the heart of Singapore’s Arts and Heritage district, our specially designed curriculum enables students to follow their own interests while nurturing them to become professional and socially engaged artists. With a focus on contemporary and traditional dance techniques, our students engage with dance in new and imaginative ways, developing their creative voice and unique artistic identity. Our diverse and inclusive approach encourages students to engage with practices and techniques such as safe dance practices, interdisciplinary performance, dance repertoire, collaborative processes, innovative choreography, and new technologies. Students will explore a range of global dance practices such as ballet, fusion (street, urban, hip-hop), jazz, traditional and folk dance, and have the opportunity to perform and learn from guest artists and choreographers.

In addition to the practical components, contextual studies are embedded in the curriculum to develop analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling students to better understand dance in relation to the wider context and activate professional practice strategies to help them navigate their artistic journey. With expert tutors who will nurture and encourage their artistic development and support students towards their own learning and professional development goals, the programme offers a high level of contact time and interactive learning.

Whether you aspire to become a performer, educator, producer, policymaker, or curator, this course is designed to prepare you to thrive both on and off the stage. Throughout the curriculum, students will have the flexibility to develop their skills and personal interests towards their career aspirations. In the second year, students will explore two main areas: Dance-making and Dance Performance. The focused training will deepen their interest, expertise and expressive skills, alongside being involved in creative and collaborative projects where innovation, experimentation and challenging artistic boundaries intersect.

With a blend of methods including lectures, studio-based practice, conversations with experts, critical reflections, self-directed study, and visits to cultural organisations, performances, exhibitions, and festivals, our assessment is tailored to the module content and learning objectives predominantly through coursework. Join us today and take the first step towards a fulfilling career in dance.
