Mr. Melvin Chew is a highly accomplished educator with a diverse background in teaching and business. He holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature, as well as an M.A. in Adult Learning from the Singapore University of Social Sciences. Additionally, he obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Roehampton.
Mr. Chew’s teaching journey began as a Project Work Instructor at various Junior Colleges in Singapore, where he honed his expertise in guiding students through project-based learning. He then transitioned to Millennia Institute, a prestigious pre-university institution, where he taught Southeast Asian History. Later, he taught English Language and Language Arts at a local private school, sharing his passion for language and literacy with his students.
Recognized as an engaging speaker, Mr. Chew has been invited to deliver talks on soft skills modules such as Body Language, Presentation Skills, and Critical Thinking. His dynamic presentations have taken place at esteemed universities including the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, and the Singapore University of Social Sciences.
As an advocate of Andragogy, the method of teaching adult learners, Mr. Chew’s research interests revolve around Adult Learning, Education in Business, Microlearning in the Business Context, and Citizenship in Adult Education. He is dedicated to equipping adult learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their professional lives.
In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Chew has held various managerial roles. Currently, he serves as the Regional Sales Manager (Asia) at DealStreetAsia, where he oversees a team and facilitates effective communication between the HR and Commercial Business Unit. He actively collaborates with senior executives to align commercial and HR expectations, while also serving as the DE&I council representative in Asia. Previously, Mr. Chew worked as the Manager of Business Development & Subscription (Global) at DealStreetAsia, leading subscription efforts and driving business growth in the media and intelligence platform.
Mr. Chew’s dedication to education and business development is evident in his initiatives to raise his company’s profile, such as the Community & Industry Partnership Program (CIPP), which he introduced to establish fruitful collaborations with universities in Singapore. His role also involved overseeing regional channel partner businesses and providing news and research coverage to the financial sector.
With his wealth of experience in teaching, managerial expertise, and passion for lifelong learning, Mr. Chew Chew brings a valuable perspective to the educational landscape at our college. His commitment to empowering adult learners and fostering professional growth makes him an invaluable asset to our faculty.
