As an accomplished storyteller and educator, Ms. Kamini M Ramachandran has made significant contributions to the field of storytelling in Asia. She founded MoonShadow Stories, which pioneered performance storytelling for adult audiences in Singapore. Kamini teaches at LASALLE College of the Arts and directs their annual student showcase, Stories Through The Mind’s Eye.
Ms. Kamini has organized conferences and festivals, served as Creative Producer for StoryFest: International Storytelling Festival Singapore, and founded The Storytelling Centre Ltd, a non-profit organization. She also established the Young Storytellers Mentorship Programme to nurture emerging talent.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Ms. Kamini holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language & Literature (Hons) from the University of Reading, UK, and a Master’s degree in Arts Pedagogy & Practice from Goldsmith’s, University of London. She has performed commissioned works for prestigious institutions like The Esplanade, The Arts House, and the National Arts Council.
With a captivating storytelling repertoire, Ms. Kamini has performed globally, earning the title of “Singapore’s most mesmerizing storyteller” by Professor Tommy Koh at the International Summit of the Book. Fluent in English and Malay, her storytelling encompasses Malaysian legends and folklore, as well as original tales, urban legends, and classic epics.
In addition to her impressive storytelling career, Ms. Kamini has provided consultancy services for museums, educational institutions, festivals, and organizations, creating content for heritage and educational projects, folklore publications, and museum exhibitions.
Ms. Kamini is a dedicated community artist who has traveled extensively, including staying with indigenous tribes in Malaysia’s jungles, to preserve traditional stories. Her storytelling continues to inspire and heal, as she shares the power of stories with audiences around the world.
