Advanced Diploma in Arts Management

Description

The Advanced Diploma in Arts Management is a 1-year course designed to develop students’ practice and deepen their understanding of the contexts, theories, principles and trends in the creative industries. By developing in students an understanding and appreciation of the arts, and the range of skills necessary to manage cultural resources – both human and material – this course prepares them to work in a diversity of arts and entertainment environments, ranging from large organizations and government departments to self-employment in the arts.

Through experiential learning with industry experts, tutors and peers, students will engage with theoretical and practical debates surrounding different aspects of arts and cultural management, such as audience development, access, finance, cultural policy, cultural production, digital practices and international collaboration. Students will learn the importance of creativity and management, given the increasing global competition as well as the opportunities and challenges posed by new technologies. Here, students will also have the opportunity to engage with tutors and peers from across disciplines and work collaboratively to conceptualize and execute events, exhibitions and productions.

As a career-focused training programme, this course offers a placement component where students have the opportunity to work on their own interest within a cultural organization – such as museums, concert venues, theatres, art studios, film sets, and post-production houses – locally and/or internationally. This time in the industry provides valuable professional insights, experiences and networks that will help them prepare for their future careers.

Alongside this will be visits to galleries, studios, museums, theatre venues and guest lectures covering a range of topics concerning the creative and entertainment sectors. Speakers include producers, festival directors, curators, theatre-makers, creative technologists, as well as policy-makers and cultural entrepreneurs. of arts and culture.
