Description
The Advanced Diploma in Music Performance is a focused course in the study of Music. Students in this programme will discover music from around the world and examine the development of music across traditions and history will experience the spectrum of music, from solo and group performance, contextual studies, stylistic studies, professional skills such as career skills to music theory and analysis. The emphasis of this unique programme is on personalised learning and genuine professional development suited to those interested in the music industry.
The course forges a combination of creative and critical skills and knowledge, as well as develop students’ technical expertise. The course seeks to establish a firm and solid foundation in both technical & musical skills and aims to generate an imaginative and creative approach to music making. It is designed with a wide range of learning and teaching experiences to create a stimulating and interactive environment to promote learning both individually and collectively.
Students will be taught via a blend of methods including lectures, professional practice modules, conversations with experts, critical reflections, self-directed study and one-to-one music lessons. Assessment is tailored to the module contents and learning objectives predominantly through coursework – performances, essays, creative performance critiques; compositions; contextual studies, aural and musicianship skills, stylistic studies, professional skills such as career skills, and instrumental/vocal teaching skills and conducting classes.
They will also develop the craft, perspectives and dispositions of a musician, which will enrich their journey in any field beyond Capital College of the Arts. Capital College of the Arts offers two tracks – the Classical/Traditional Performance track and the Contemporary Performance track.

Minimum Entry Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- Minimum of two ‘A’ Level subject passes (not including General Paper) or their equivalent; OR
- Diploma in Music Performance awarded by Capital College of the Arts, Management and Technology (CCAMT); AND
- The student will need to submit a statement of purpose and pass an audition and interview.
- Other qualifications which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (500–800 WORDS)
The student will need to describe their interest, involvement and experience in music performance and/or the performing arts more broadly. Performing experience can include work done with arts organisations or events such as film, performance, festivals, exhibitions. These can also be student projects that you worked on.
AUDITION
Popular Music Performance
– Piano: Perform three pieces: two contrasting songs from different styles and one original composition.
– Aural Component: Aural assessment will be administered, topics include: Identification of intervals, Identification of Major, Minor, Diminished, Augmented and Dominant 7th chords and sight reading with chord notation.
Classical Music
– Double bass
Choose 1 from the following: Giambattista Cimador – Movement 1 from Concerto in G. Giovanni Bottesini – Movement 1 from Concerto in A minor Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf – Movement 1 from Concerto No.2
OR
2 contrasted movements from: Antonio Vivaldi – (trans Zimmerman) Cello Sonatas OR Benedetto Marcello – Sonatas Op 2 OR Willem De Fesch – Sonata in G AND A piece of your own choice which contrasts in period and style from your first piece.
– Aural component: Aural assessment will be administered, topics include: Identification of intervals, Sight reading (up to 1 sharp and/or 1 flat) and Identification of Major, Minor, Augmented, Diminished and Dominant 7th chords.

The student will need to participate in a dialogue in relation to the submitted statement of purpose and audition – What are your motivations for choosing this course? Share your interest, influence and aspiration. What do you hope to achieve in this programme? You should also share how this programme might prepare you for your future career path.
