Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts (Photography and Digital Media)

Description

Photography, digital imaging and technology play a vital role in our everyday lives and creative expressions in fine art and the creative industries today. Contemporary art-making is increasingly reliant on digital imaging technology and mediums to raise pertinent questions of the world we live in and imagine future possibilities.

The Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts (Photography and Digital Media) is a 1-year engaging, practice-led programme that prepares students to take full advantage of traditional and contemporary tools in pursuit of creating significant, conceptually rigorous artwork. Through experiential learning and studio-based lessons, students will develop conceptual thinking and technical skills in photography and a range of key digital media. These creative skills acquired through camera techniques in still and moving images and digital manipulation techniques will help them capture their imagination and communicate meaning through compelling visual forms. By acquiring digital fluency and practical skills to share content and build audiences both online and off-line, students will develop their own distinct visual language that opens up a wide range of career pathways in photography, various media and other aspects of technology.

The end-of-year highlight is an exhibition where students will showcase their body of artworks in a public-facing setting. This event is an excellent opportunity for students to display their talent and build connections with leading artists, photographers, film-makers and creatives in the art and cultural sector.

This course is structured so that students will explore different approaches and styles of photography and moving image to build their skills, creative approaches and understanding of the practice as they develop their own aesthetic and intellectual position as an image maker. Upon successful completion, students will gain confidence as well as professional and transferable skills and knowledge needed to be at the forefront of their profession in the creative digital industries. This course is suitable for anyone interested in photography, media and creating digital works for artistic career, commercial and advertising, and other visual communication assets.
